Visit to the football field


I think that this didactic proposal would be a good option to work on different areas of the subject with transversal contents such as Physical Education, Mathematics and Art Education.

Specifically in the mathematical field we can find: Axial symmetry, magnitudes: area, angular amplitude and length and types of figures.

1. Visit a football pitch and calculate the area and perimeters of the markings on it. 

2. After having seen what a football pitch looks like, design different playing fields using different plane figures, draw on them what the halfway line, the areas and the goals would be. If the pitch were shaped like any other polygon, would it be equally symmetrical? Investigate by folding and mark the line that would correspond to the axis of symmetry where possible. 

3. Work on identifying the types of lines and polygons in the fields designed from the previous activities.

Geometric art

 Did you know that there are artists who make geometric art? And what is geometric art, you may ask?  Well, this is an artistic tendency that consists of combining compositions using different geometric shapes to create different types of results through them, there are abstract paintings, sculptures, realism, etc. This trend is becoming more and more common and characteristic, that is why here are some of my favorite artists related to this trend along with a significant and representative work of each one, I hope yours! - Luján Marcos -  Pilar Barrios - Geray Mena - Valentino Sibadon - Marco Moreira

Enlargements and reductions

One topic I had to bring to the classroom during my internship at La Presentación School was enlargements and reductions. In particular, my classroom was quite disinterested in mathematics and I thought of doing it in a more manipulative way. To do this I divided the class into groups of 5 and assigned each group a colour.  After that, I gave each group a set of geometric figures of the colour they had been assigned. The task of each group was to write down the name and size of each of the shapes and then make an enlargement and a reduction of each of them. Finally, a joint mural is made by all the groups where the different shapes are stuck together with their corresponding enlargements and reductions and the process and the result is explained next to each one of them.  The final result is a poster that can be put up in the classroom as decoration to keep the process in mind.
